Niki Maragou is a chemist, she received a MSc degree in Chemical Analysis – Quality Control, with distinction (2005), and a PhD degree in Chemistry, from the Department of Chemistry of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 2010.
She has worked in 10 research projects of the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry (Department of Chemistry, NKUA) as post-doc until today. Between 2014 – 2021 she worked as regulatory chemist at the Benaki Phytopathological Institute (BPI) on the risk assessment of pesticides and biocides according to Reg EC 1107/2009 and Reg EC 528/2012, participating also as member in the relevant working groups of European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), while she held a researcher position (BPI, 2016 – 2021) in the Laboratory of Chemical Control of Pesticides. She also worked as lecturer at New York College (Athens, 2013 – 2015). Since 2021 she is an external associate / teaching staff at the Department of Food Science and Technology (University of West Attica) and at the Department of Agricultural Development, Agrofood and Management of Natural Resources (NKUA).
Niki’s research interests include the development, validation and application of analytical methods (chromatography, mass spectrometry, etc) for the determination of contaminants and natural occurring compounds in food, environmental and biological samples by targeted, wide-scope targeted and suspect analysis for the evaluation of food quality and chemical safety, dietary exposure and environmental risk assessment. She has published 22 research articles in international scientific journals and 2 chapters in books, with more than 700 citations. She is reviewer for international scientific journals on analytical chemistry, food analysis and environmental analysis.
